Day of Charter Questions
Please remember to bring towels, reef-safe sunscreen, and a waterproof bag if you have one (for shore excursions). Note that only reef-safe sunscreens are allowed, and aerosol sunscreens are strictly prohibited. You can find a selection of reef-safe sunscreens in our shop.
We also suggest packing hats and rash guards for added sun protection.
Our captained charters include a cooler stocked with ice, water, sodas, and a few beers (approximately 2 per person), but you’re welcome to bring any additional beverages you’d like. We kindly ask that you avoid bringing glass bottles.
Also, bring your passport (if you’re going to BVI) or ID (if you’re staying in USVI).
No, you don’t need to bring your own snorkel gear. We have it ready for you on the boat. However, if you have small children or several people in your group wearing the same size, please check with your captain before departure to ensure we have the correct sizes and enough equipment on board.
For safety, small children must wear a Coast Guard-approved life vest. If you don’t have one, please let us know in advance, and we’ll make sure to provide one for you.
Yes, our boats are equipped with Bluetooth-enabled stereos! We recommend bringing a charging cord with you.
Reef-safe sunscreens are mandatory in the Virgin Islands, as many sunscreens can damage, or even kill, coral and marine life. We also ask that you refrain from bringing or using “Sport” or aerosol sunscreens, as they can create slippery floors and stain the upholstery.
Rash guards with built-in SPF are another great option for minimizing sun exposure. Be sure to let us know if you would like to purchase reef-safe sunscreen or Knot Working rash guards.
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks on the charter boat.
If you prefer, we can also arrange to have food and beverages stocked and ready for you. Just let us know your preferences in advance, and we prepare everything for your trip. Whether it’s snacks, drinks, or a full meal, we’ve got you covered for a great experience on the water.
Trip Planning
A full day charter in the USVI is a great way to see all the islands of St. Thomas and St. Thomas have to offer without having to spend time clearing customs.
We typically recommend you plan for 4 to 6 stops on a full day charter. If you want a more relaxed and laid back itinerary, plan for fewer stops with longer duration at each stop.
Start by setting your intention for the day:
- Are you looking to see as much as possible?
- Do you prefer a more relaxed and laid-back itinerary? A day at a private beach, perhaps?
- Is indulging in local cuisine and tropical cocktails a priority for the day?
Making sure our crew understands the vibe for your trip helps us pull out the right stops and exceed your expectations.

Passport / Customs
No, you do not need a passport to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands if you are a U.S. citizen. Since the U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory, travelers from the mainland U.S. can enter without a passport.
However, if you’re arriving from outside the United States, you will need a valid passport for entry.
Because you will not be leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands, you won’t need to pay customs fees on this trip.
A passport and/or passport card will not be necessary for your USVI day charter. Only guests leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands and entering the British Virgin Islands will be required to clear customs and present a passport and/or passport card.
For British Virgin Islands trips, U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to clear customs—driver’s licenses and birth certificates are not accepted. If you’re staying within the USVI only, a government-issued photo ID (like a driver’s license) is fine for adults, but we always recommend carrying your passport just in case plans change or you decide to cross into BVI waters.
If you’re traveling to the British Virgin Islands, all children—regardless of age—must have a valid passport. This includes infants and toddlers. Birth certificates alone are not accepted for BVI entry. If you’re staying in the USVI only, minors do not need a passport, but it’s still a good idea to have an ID or birth certificate on hand.
